Glantal Health Centre
Orientation and harmonious design promote safety and well-being in the hospital and care sector.
The development of a conclusive information architecture, the signalling system, can be successful if the needs and possibilities are already explored together with clients and architects in the planning and design stage. The more open-minded and willing to experiment, the easier it is for a well-functioning design to "tell stories".this was considered and planned early on in the construction of the new Glantal Health Centre in Meisenheim, Rhine-Hesse. Most of the information and advice was applied directly to wall or glass surfaces. In the entrance area, the visitor is given a quick overview of the four levels in the building. For the protection of sight and casserole, typical pictures from the surroundings of the community located at the edge of the North Palatinate mountain region were taken up. Wide views over gentle hills of the traditional wine growing region and the staffettes of the vines, which structure and rhythm the landscape, result in a play of forms and structures. Function and regional identity interlock into an overall composition that does not "impose" itself, but offers both, peace and stimulation for the senses. Monolithic stelae were realized in the exterior of the health centre, which fit harmoniously into the overall picture. The entire orientation design was carried out in cooperation with meng. The planner, Joachim Kubowitz, has been a communication designer in Cologne since 1990 (oui orientierung und identität www.ouinfo.de), specialising in the design tasks of corporate design and signalling.
